I’ll be honest with you. I want to reach everybody. I drive down the street and see a local business, I want to help them create better content for the signs in their windows. I’m on the web and visit the site of a major corporation and I want to drop them a message telling them how my services can help them. Realistically though, that is impossible. So, how do you choose who to send those cold e-mails to?
Focus on your niche
Terez has it figured out. She knows to whom she wants to send cold e-mails because she knows what interests her and she has something to say on the topic. In our cold e-mailing campaign, she has chosen to focus on websites, magazines, and blogs that feature topics involving natural hair care and the black community.
Still not sure?
If you’re like me, it isn’t that easy to pick, unfortunately. I have chosen a variety of areas, not because of a lack of focus but because the trail ran cold with some of my choices. I have however decided to focus on local pet stores, restaurants, and music stores. I have a personal connection with some of the store owners, love food (Iknow, who doesn’t?) and am a violinist. As this venture continues, I do expect my focus to narrow.
In the end, it is a good starting point for both of us. It is exciting to research the topics that interest us and our enthusiasm builds as we anticipate writing about the things that we love.
